The 2021-2022 school year marks the beginning of a new chapter for Seneca East elementary students. A new phonics program from Sonday System was introduced to bring consistency to the reading and writing standards for the district.
“This program meets many of the newly adopted state mandates, and we are excited to improve our phonics curriculum,” said Laurie Hunker, director of testing and curriculum.
Last August, K-5 teachers received training from Sonday System on adopting the phonics program. In December of 2021, 15 teachers participated in additional job-embedded professional development by observing lessons and working one-on-one and in small groups.
