The Kindness Club and MS Student Council have partnered to host a plastic bag drive! This is in an effort to help Faith United Methodist and Saint Paul churches in Tiffin work on a mission to make sleeping mats for the homeless in our own communities. Seven mats have been made and distributed with hopes of many more to come.
Each mat takes 700 bags and 20 hours to complete.
Bags are collected, sorted by color, flattened, and cut to eliminate the handles and closed bottom. Then two are tied together to create plarn (plastic yard) to begin weaving.
Volunteers Terri Everhart and Linda Hetzel came to SE for a demonstration so students could see where all these plastic bags were going and what they were creating.
