On Thursday April 12, 2018, the Tiger Jazz Band, directed by Mrs. Dana Willman, participated in the Pro Music Festival, held in Tiffin University’s new recording arts building, the Marion Center. They performed 4 pieces for other jazz bands who also performed throughout the day. A panel of judges, including Nathan Santos, who has worked with the SE Jazz Band before, gave an onstage clinic following each performance. The experience was educational and informative, as well as entertaining. Lunch at Fort Ball was included in their day. These 29 performers were great representatives of Seneca East.
A huge thank you to the many parents, families, and friends who attended to support our group, and to our bus driver Ida, and to our chaperones for their tremendous help all day. A Guest performer, Chloe Feoranzo performed and gave special hints on how to play improvisation to the students in the afternoon. Several of the SE students were brave enough to go onstage to work with her in front of everyone, playing on the spot and enjoying the music. That evening, a special performance was held with Chloe performing on clarinet, tenor sax, and voice, along with several music professors from Tiffin University. Mrs. Willman attended and remarked what a tremendously uplifting concert it was with professionals playing Dixieland repertoire.
Music is a lifelong skill and means of enjoyment for all. We invite our fans to come hear the Jazz Band play for the Teacher’s Appreciation concert on the front courtyard lawn on Wednesday May 9th from 7:10-7:40 am, and at the Spring Band Awards Concert on Sunday May 20 around 3:45 pm.
The 7th Grade General Music students, under the direction of Mrs. Willman, performed a hand chime recital on Friday April 13, 2018, for the 2nd and 3rd graders. They played a variety of music from hymns to folk songs. The students then shared their knowledge of playing to the elementary children, letting them try out these fascinating instruments.
