In 2017, approximately 10,500 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes, accounting for 28% of all traffic-related deaths in the U.S. The Grim Reaper, known as Death, came to collect 28 souls representing 28% who made a poor choice of driving while impaired. Seniors were randomly selected from classrooms and given a T-shirt to wear with the slogan, “Prom Promise, My Life is Worth it”. They all sat together at lunch not speaking to anyone representing that they are no longer here, just a memory.
This is a traditional activity for SADD chapters dating back to the earliest days of the organization. It is popular during prom and graduation season known as a high-risk time for impaired and underage drinking. If we can help students stop and think about the dangers of impaired driving we are doing our job. Your life is worth it!
Miss Schrembeck's classes write letters to themselves as sophomores and juniors, stating where they hope to be when they graduate. She keeps them until they are seniors and the class of 2018 just received theirs back this week. Have a fun and safe prom! Congratulations class of 2018, we are all so proud of you.
